Glamorous Witch Makeup To Cast a Spell

There’s no better time of year to channel your inner witch than during the Halloween season! Witches have always been one of the most popular Halloween costumes, thanks to their classic appeal. So, how do you portray the iconic character in a way that stands out from the crowd?

We here at SHEGLAM are all about innovation and creativity. To help you achieve a fresh take on this classic costume, we’ve compiled a guide for glamorous witch makeup with tips that are so easy, it will feel like magic.

You might not be the most wicked witch at the party, but you will definitely be the most fabulous!

What Are Some Tips and Tricks for Witch Makeup?

Before we get started on your bold Halloween look, we highly suggest prepping your base. Begin by cleansing your skin. Wash your face to remove any dirt, oils, dead skin cells, or other debris that could have gathered throughout the day.

Next, moisturize your skin. Hydrated skin is the best canvas for a makeup masterpiece. With the help of your favorite cream or lotion, your makeup products will be easier to apply, appear smoother, and last for a longer amount of time.

Once your cream has been absorbed, you can move on to priming your skin. A makeup primer is a product specifically designed to help you achieve a polished and even application of your other products. We suggest the silicone-free SHEGLAM Good Grip Hydrating Primer.

Now comes the fun part… We encourage you to take inspo from the following guide while also adding your own creative touch. Hop on your broom — we’re ready for take-off.

Eyeshadow

Bold eyeshadow shades are an absolute must for glam witch makeup! It is easier to clean up colorful fallout before applying foundation and concealer, so even if you do not typically start your makeup routine with your eyes, we suggest giving it a try.

Before you get started on your dramatic look, prime your eyelids with a hydrating primer or a cream that is thick and moisturizing. This will make it much easier to blend your eyeshadow.

The simplest way to accomplish a high-impact eye look is to select three complimentary colors or a single color in three different shades. For your convenience, we recommend using the SHEGLAM Cursed Chrysalis Palette. This smudge-proof, high-pigment palette is made from a vegan formula and features haunting shades optimal for Halloween.

Pick a shimmery shade and apply it all over your eyelid, blending upwards. Use this same shade of eyeshadow beneath your lower lash line. Now, for a pop of color, take a lighter shade and apply it to the center of your eyelids. On the outer portion of your eye, use a dark shade and blend it into the crease.

If you have any trouble creating a soft blending effect, try using a small puffy brush. With a little patience, your eyes will be Insta-worthy in no time at all.

Eyeliner

Now that your eye shadow has been applied, you can move on to eyeliner. Regardless of which colors you choose to use on your eyelids, black liner is always a safe bet for a glam makeup design. To make things extra dramatic, use your black liner to create a cat eye.

A cat eye is a type of wing technique in which liner is applied to the upper eyelid and extended outwards and upwards. It is a popular choice for making your eyes appear larger and more elongated.

To really embody the witchy spirit, you should avoid making your liner look soft or blended and, instead, go for a more angular finish. Liquid eyeliner is the best option for creating a sharp and precise cat eye.

We suggest using the SHEGLAM Pro Precision Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. This precision liner features a fine felt tip and a pigment-rich matte black formula that will last you all night long!

Draw a thin line close to your lash line and slowly increase the thickness. Building up your liner will minimize the possibility of making big mistakes. If need be, you can press a piece of tape along the outer edge of your eye for more guidance, creating a clean, sharp edge. Make the wing longer than usual for extra emphasis.

If you’re unhappy with the outcome of your eyeliner and find that it looks too thick or messy, try using a cotton swab with a dab of makeup remover to create a crisper look. Bonus tip: if you want your eyes to appear bigger, add white eyeliner to your bottom waterline!

Finish up with some mascara or false eyelashes for extra flare.

Eyebrows

No witch is leaving the house without some arched brows. Sharp eyebrows create the image of a more intense and cunning expression. If you would rather not pull out the tweezers and alter the natural shape of your eyebrows, don’t fret!

You can achieve this same effect by giving your eyebrows extra definition. Use an angled brush and your typical eyebrow shade or something a little darker. We suggest trying the SHEGLAM Brow-Fection Angled Brush & Dip in the shade of charcoal, which comes with an angled square brush and matte liquid solution.

Start by defining the bottom of your brow with light strokes. Use your angled brush to make your arch appear sharper than usual. Next, create a thin line across the top of your eyebrow. Extend the tail of your brow to make it appear more angular.

Once you have outlined your brows to your heart’s delight, go ahead and fill them in. When it comes to costume makeup, there is no pressure to make your features appear realistic, so don’t be afraid to make your brows thicker and more pigmented than usual.

Clean up the appearance of your brows using some concealer. Now that you have finished working on your eyes, you can apply your foundation.

Blush, Contour, and Highlighter

Once your foundation is set, proceed to work on adding dimension to your face. You can accomplish this via blush, contour, and highlighter. Though you are welcome to use whatever contour and highlight placement makes you the most confident, we do suggest adding a little extra contour beneath your cheekbones.

Witches are often depicted as gaunt and hollow-cheeked. To mirror this effect, select a contour cream or powder that is one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone. In this case, a matte product like the SHEGLAM Sun Beam Matte Liquid Bronzer will be more effective than one with shimmer.

Suck in your cheeks to find the natural indentations between your cheekbones and jawline. Blend the product between the top of your ear and the corner of your mouth for an exaggerated look. You can further emphasize this by adding highlighter on your cheekbones.

To keep things looking snatched, apply a dark shade of blush and blend the product towards your temples. This will add another layer of shadow to your already dimensional design. Finally, apply pressed powder to lock it all in.

Lips

To really pull the glamorous witch look together, you are absolutely going to need dramatic looking lipstick. Before you begin to apply the bold lip shade of your choice, we suggest prepping your lips.

Start off by exfoliating. Exfoliating is the process of removing dry or dead skin. You can do this by using a store-bought lip scrub or DIY one using household objects like sugar and honey or coconut oil and brown sugar.

Be sure to follow this up with a nourishing lip balm. Though exfoliation will leave your lips smoother, that alone is not enough. Hydration is important for keeping your lips soft and crack-free all night long.

The first step to doing your lipstick is to apply a lip liner. Choose one that matches the shade you have chosen for your makeup look. This will help to maintain your lipstick throughout the night and create more definition.

Remember, one of the most important aspects of this glamorous witch look is that everything is angular, just like the top of your pointy hat. Be sure to create sharp, clean edges with your liner and to really emphasize the shape of your cupid’s bow.

Finally, you can apply your lipstick. When it comes to choosing a color, the bolder the better! Red is always glamorous, but don’t be afraid to experiment with colors like purple, green or  black. We suggest the SHEGLAM Onyx Kaleidoscope Lipstick — a smudge-proof, cruelty free lip shade inspired by gothic style and made with a matte velvet finish.

After applying your lipstick, clean up the edges using a small brush and a touch of concealer. If you would like to make your lips appear plumper, add some highlighter above your cupid’s bow.

Finishing Touches

With a little makeup magic, you’ll be the envy of every vampire, werewolf, and mummy at the Halloween party. To complete your glamorous witch makeup, consider adding some fun character decals.

For example, you can use your eyeliner to add a small mole on your chin or the tip of your nose. You can also apply colorful mascara for an extra pop of color or use colored makeup pencils to draw a cobweb beside your eyes.

Put on your cutest fit, grab your cauldron, and get ready to cast a love spell on everyone you meet. Don’t forget to show us your finished masterpiece by sharing it on your socials and tagging us at @sheglam_official.
