Pretty Yet Spooky: 5 Halloween Makeup Ideas Pretty and Playful Fairy Makeup Ideas for a Whimsical Look

Ready to sprinkle a little magic into your makeup routine? Whether you’re prepping for Halloween, a festival, or a themed party, trying out a fairy makeup look is always an enchanting time.

Here are a few of our favorite fairy makeup ideas for an overall whimsical look.

Flower Crown Fairy

Channel your inner garden fairy with this delicate yet vibrant look! You’ll need several bright eyeshadows, floral face stickers or temporary tattoos, and some optional false eyelashes.

The bright colors are the star of the show here, so we recommend beginning by dusting the eyeshadow shade of your choosing all over your eyelid. Choose a shade complementary to your eye color.

For example:

  • If you have blue eyes, try a vibrant gold eyeshadow.
  • If you have brown eyes, try a rosy pink eyeshadow.
  • If you have green eyes, gold or purple eyeshadow will be flattering.
  • For hazel eyes, consider using a bright green eyeshadow.

Aside from choosing a vibrant color, keep your eyeshadow simple. Blend the shadow out into the crease of your eyelid before adding a spot of highlighter in the inner corner of each eye, curling your eyelashes, and applying mascara. Va-va-voom — instant dimension.

Finally, apply your temporary tattoos or face stickers to the tops of your cheekbones just beneath the outer corners of your eyes. We’re picturing a mini fairy garden coming to life on your face. How enchanting is that?

Woodland Nymph

Some fairies flit through the flowers. Others hide in the trees.

For this whimsical woodland look, start with a neutral foundation and use earth-toned eyeshadows to create a soft, smoky eye. Fawn, light and dark browns, and subtle greens are especially appropriate here. Brush your brows into place with a soft brow gel for a natural, clean, groomed look.

Next, take your favorite highlighting stick and apply a subtle glow to your cheekbones and browbones before dusting a pinch of glitter eyeshadow to the exact places you just highlighted. (That glow has to be just a bit unnatural, after all.)

Finish with a matte brown lipstick to tie the whole woodland aesthetic together. When choosing the shade of brown for your lipstick, pay attention to the undertones — if you have warm-toned skin, a warm brown will be flattering, while if you have cool-toned skin, a more icy brown will look better.

And voila – you belong in the forest with the rest of the woodland nymphs.

Enchanted Mermaid Vibe

To all the water signs out there, this look is for you. You’re going to want to grab a blue eyeshadow palette, iridescent or pearlescent highlighter, and your clearest, stickiest lip gloss.

Start off the look by prepping your skin with moisturizer and an ultra-hydrating primer.

Once these layers have sunk into your skin, dab highlighter at the inner corners of your eyes and all the high points on your face, including the tip of your nose, your cheekbones, brow bones, and cupid’s bow on your lips. Use a rounded brush to lightly blend out the highlighter until your face is even and practically glowing from within.

Next are the eyes. Blue eyeshadow is best for this look, although if you have hazel eyes you may want to incorporate more sea-green tones. If you have green eyes, you can try using lilac and lavender instead.

Using a soft eyeshadow brush, dust your chosen shade of eyeshadow across your entire eyelid, blending into your crease and brow bone. Use an angled brush to line your bottom lash line with the same eyeshadow shade as well.

Use the same rounded eyeshadow brush from before to apply a slightly darker shade of blue to the outer corners of your eyes, blending out to create some subtle dimension. Then, use a high-quality eyelash curler and your favorite mascara to add as much volume as possible and make that eyeshadow pop.

Finish your stunning mermaid makeup look by applying clear gloss to your lips. Pair it with a costume, and you may as well have just stepped out of the sea.

Cosmic Fairy

All of your friends will be starry-eyed over this cosmic fairy look.

Prep your skin with a neutral base of primer, foundation, or light concealer – whatever you prefer to wear on a typical day. Next, go in with an eyeshadow brush to apply a deep plum eyeshadow all across your lids, around the outer corner of your eye, and beneath the lower lash line.

Use a fluffy brush to make sure the eyeshadow is well-pigmented and consistent across your eyelid. Spritz yourself with some setting spray, and let that eyeshadow sit and dry for a few minutes.
Now, it’s time to let your inner artist shine.

Use white liquid eyeliner to draw tiny stars around your eyes, making them as big or as small as you want. You can draw them as asterisks, the traditional five-pointed star, or even just tiny little dots. Focus on the outer corners of your eyes for an overall fun but balanced look. Add a sprinkling of silver face glitter or a light dusting of silver glittery eyeshadow for a twinkling star effect.

Finish this cosmic look with a soft lavender blush and matching lip stain. Pair your makeup with a pair of fairy wings, a crown, or a magic wand, and you’re sure to leave a whimsical impression on anyone who looks your way.

Think Pink

For the ultimate girly fairy look, try applying everything in shades of pink. Start with a neutral base and immediately apply a very pigmented pink to your cheekbones and eyelids.

You want wide, sweeping color distribution here, so a fan brush is perfect for this part. Keep your eyeshadow simple – the shade of pink should be the main attraction here; no need to build out much depth or dimension. (On the other hand, don’t be afraid to volumize those lashes with a good ol’ pair of falsies.)

Finish your base makeup with a complementary shade of pink lipstick. Just like in the woodland nymph tutorial, it’s critical to pay attention to the undertones of your skin here.

Now it’s time for the fun part. Using eyelash glue and a clean pair of tweezers, apply tiny pink rhinestone face gems wherever you feel like on your face. You can apply them parallel to your eyebrows, around the outer corners of your eyes, as if they were teardrops, or all of the above.

This extra layer of glam is sure to elevate your all-pink makeup look from Barbie to fairy princess.

The Classic Fairy: Tinker Bell

Time to channel your inner Tinker Bell. Start off this look with primer and a super-dewy foundation to make your skin look kissed by pixie dust. (Don’t forget to prime your eyelids!)

Next, use a green eyeshadow palette to build out a soft smokey eye. Start by dusting a neutral nude shade across your entire eyelid before dotting the outer corner of the eyelid with a playful sparkly green shade.

Using your eyeshadow brush, layer out more and more green until this shade has been evenly blended into your crease. Copy this same technique with a darker forest green, using an even lighter touch than before, until you’ve created dimension while still maintaining that Tinker Bell green.

Once your eyeshadow is done, curl and mascara away with our favorite volumizing mascara. (It’s the closest thing to a real magic wand we’ve got in our back pocket.)

For your cheeks, a soft, pretty pink blush will keep this look fresh and flirty, just like Tink herself. Feel free to go in with some highlighter as well, but be careful not to overdo it – that beautiful green smokey eye makeup is the real star of the show here.

Finally, finish off your Tinker Bell look with this lip-plumping gloss for a flattering pixie pout. Pair it with a cute green dress and wings, and ta-da – your Tinker Bell dreams are coming true!
